From “I’ve Never Made a Trifle” to “Look What She Created”

One of My Favorite Moments from This Month’s Dinner à la Amy Open House

One of my favorite moments from this month’s Dinner à la Amy Open House didn’t happen in my kitchen—it happened after my neighbor went home.

She stopped by and said, “I need to make a trifle…but I’ve never made one before.”

I love moments like that because they’re exactly why I host my monthly open houses. They’re a place to ask questions, discover new recipes, and leave feeling confident enough to try something new.

I immediately suggested Absolutely Almond Pound Cake Mix and assured her that Tastefully Simple had a wonderful trifle recipe to guide her. She left the open house with confidence, the start of her very first trifle, and the excitement of trying something new.

A few days later, my phone buzzed with this beautiful photo.

She had transformed a simple pound cake into a stunning trifle layered with creamy vanilla filling, fresh strawberries, and blueberries. Best of all, she was excited to share it with family and friends.

This is exactly why I do what I do.

Dinner à la Amy has never been about creating perfect meals or Pinterest-worthy desserts. It’s about helping people solve everyday kitchen dilemmas, giving them the confidence to try something new, and making it easier to gather the people we love around the table.

Connection, not perfection.

If you’ve never made a trifle before, let this be your sign to give it a try!

Absolutely Almond Trifle

  • ¾ cup water
  • ¾ cup butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 large egg, beaten (or prepare according to the directions on your package if using the newer formula)
  • 1 (3.4-ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 1 (8-ounce) container whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

Directions

  1. Prepare the Absolutely Almond Pound Cake according to your package directions. Cool completely and cut into cubes.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and milk for 2 minutes. Fold in the whipped topping.
  3. In a clear trifle bowl, layer cake cubes, pudding mixture, strawberries, and blueberries. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
  5. Garnish with additional strawberries and blueberries, if desired.

Makes 12 servings.

Whether you’re making your very first trifle or your fiftieth, remember—you don’t have to do it perfectly. Sometimes all you need is the right recipe, a little encouragement, and something delicious to share around the table.

I’d love to see what you create! If you make this Absolutely Almond Trifle, snap a photo and share it with me. Seeing your creations is one of the best parts of what I do.
