Nana’s Apple Cake: The Summer Fruit Cake You Didn’t Know You Needed

When you hear “Nana’s Apple Cake,” it’s easy to assume it’s just for apples. But one of the reasons I always keep this mix in my pantry is because it’s much more versatile than the name suggests.
Think of it as your “whatever’s in season” cake mix.
Summer gardens, farmers markets, and roadside stands are overflowing with fresh produce right now, and Nana’s Apple Cake is the perfect way to turn those fruits (and even vegetables!) into an easy homemade dessert.
My Favorite: Blueberries
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’m a blueberry fan. In fact, blueberries are my favorite way to make Nana’s Apple Cake.
The berries burst while baking and create little pockets of sweetness throughout the cake. It’s delicious with a cup of coffee in the morning or served as dessert after dinner.
Don’t Stop at Apples
This mix works beautifully with:
🍑 Fresh peaches
🫐 Blueberries
🍌 Ripe bananas
🥒 Garden zucchini
🍎 Apples, of course!
The result is a moist, homemade-style cake that tastes like you spent far more time in the kitchen than you actually did.
Summer Baking Made Simple
One of my favorite things about Tastefully Simple products is that they help me make the most of what’s already in my kitchen. If your neighbor drops off zucchini from the garden, your farmers market haul includes fresh peaches, or your blueberries need used up before they get too soft, Nana’s Apple Cake has you covered.
Because dinner should feed your soul, not your stress—and dessert shouldn’t be complicated either.
Amy’s Summer Tip
Pick up two boxes.
Use one for a classic apple cake and save the second for whatever summer fruit finds its way into your kitchen. You might discover a new family favorite.
