Connection, Not Perfection: Yes, I Get My Groceries Delivered
There was a time when I would have felt a little embarrassed about a picture like this.
A pile of grocery bags sitting on my front porch.
Groceries delivered.
Maybe you’ve felt that way too.
Like somehow you should have gone to the grocery store yourself.
You should have had the time.
You should have made the list, pushed the cart, unloaded the car and carried all those bags into the house.
But here’s the thing I’ve learned:
There is no prize for making life harder than it needs to be.
I get my groceries delivered.
And I don’t feel guilty about it anymore.
I actually started doing it after my mom died.
At that point, I was managing two households, and there were only so many hours in the day. I was trying to keep up with everything that needed to be done, and grocery shopping was one thing I realized I could take off my plate.
So I did.
And you know what?
I never went back.
Now, having groceries delivered is one of those little things that gives me back time and energy.
Time to make dinner.
Time to work.
Time to sit down for a minute.
Time to do something that actually matters to me.
And sometimes, let’s be honest, time to just breathe.
So if you need permission…
Here it is.
If grocery delivery makes your life easier, use it.
If you need to buy the pre-cut vegetables, buy them.
If the rotisserie chicken is dinner tonight, call it dinner.
If you use a meal shortcut, that’s not cheating.
If you order groceries because the thought of walking through the grocery store after a long day makes you want to cry…
Order the groceries.
There is no shame in finding a way to make dinner—and life—a little simpler.
That’s something I talk about a lot here at Dinner à la Amy.
Because connection, not perfection isn’t just something I say about gathering around the table.
It’s how I try to live.
I don’t want you worrying about whether you’re doing dinner “right.”
I want you sitting down with the people you love.
I want you passing plates.
I want you laughing around the table.
And if getting those groceries delivered to your front porch helps make that possible?
Then put the groceries on the porch. ❤️
I’ll be right there with you.
Connection, not perfection.
A little Dinner à la Amy reminder
You don’t have to do everything yourself to be doing a good job.
Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is look at your day and ask:
“What can I make easier?”
And then give yourself permission to make it easier.
Because dinner should feed your soul—not your stress.
And yes… I get my groceries delivered. 😉
